Kern County Seed Potato Meeting Sees Report On Europe Trip
Mr. Al Mercker of the USDA spoke at Kern County Seed Potato Association field day about his recent European trip on potato conditions. Local growers in Shafter and Wasco discussed competition from Atkins Kroll and Company and efforts to wash and pack Kern potatoes. The group praised seed programs led by Dr. John McLean while noting storm damage in Wheeler Ridge and Edison districts and shifts to cotton as fields recover. Potatoes shipped from Kern totaled 1565 carloads this year, with expectations of higher shipments despite storms.
