Man To Face Trial in Shafter Shooting Death
A Clovis man Martin Roy Farmer, 40, is bound over for Superior Court in Bakersfield on a murder charge for the April 7 shooting of George Edward Rice, 45, at Rice’s residence. Rice used the alias Joe Youngblood in 1964. Farmer allegedly retrieved a rifle and fired six times, dying at a Bakersfield hospital.

John Matthews, manager of the Shafter DMV, expects a heavy renewal rush due to 1965 law shortening licenses from five to four years. Production Training Corporation of Fresno oversees construction with J F Weschler as manager. On the job carpentry training is provided for workers to qualify for external employment. Occupancy starts after the first 50 units are finished. rent is 1 dollar per day. The camp, first established in 1937, continued makeshift housing through 1968.
