Agricultural Department Heads at Shafter High
The Shafter High School Agricultural Department serves about 100 students. Vocational and academic agriculture are taught under Mr. Glenn Nay, assisted by Mr. Holger Hansen and Mr. Burnley Dooley, with Mrs. Hazel Brockett handling bookkeeping. The farm near the school supports hands on learning, with a hired man helping on all farm work. To graduate with a vocational major a student needs four years of agriculture plus two years of farm mechanics. The Future Farmers of America chapter promotes interest in agriculture, offering ranks from green hand to state farmer's degree, a rare honor earned by leadership, scholarship, and projects. Last year Leland Kroeker, Steve Redricuez, and Tom Fletcher achieved the state farmer’s degree. Livestock shows are among the aims for the students.
