Recreation Commission Approves Shafter Summer Play Program
The Shafter Recreation Commission approved the three year history leading summer plan by Director Roy Farrell. Funds come from the School District Kern Ent Union High School District Shafter City Kern County Rio Bravo school and the Shafter Community Chest. The program includes a Richland Aquatic Center water program with lifeguards, regular swimming, a robust softball setup, and weekly Community Nights in the Veteran's Building with arts crafts and talent shows. Local sponsors are sought for softball teams and meals are provided at the Richland cafeteria under Sylvia Baughman.

Two district art entries, Ruth Lott of Shafter and Kathleen Foster of Wasco, won blue ribbons at the Kern County final judging in Bakersfield.
