Rain could not dampen attendance at Shafter High School Open House held Friday April 29 with 300 parents and friends touring departments. Miss Eileen Woodburn directed the event sponsored by the Masonic Order as part of Public Schools Week. Hostesses welcomed guests and exhibits showcased new classrooms and plans for a new gym while the Girls Glee Club performed in the assembly hall directed by R L Gates. The stock judging contest was postponed to May 3 due to rain.

Plans For Flying Local Mail Being Perfected
Preparations for National Air Week May 15 to 21 are underway at Shafter and include direct air mail links to distant points on May 19. Postmaster Lois Berry says Bakersfield post master Shields and Kern county airport chief Cecil Meadows have arranged the service. Pilot Don Carlos will fly from Shafter to the airport to collect local airmail and ship it to Bakersfield for onward transport. Departure time is not yet fixed and further details will be announced next week.

Midgley Reelected To Utility Board By Unanimous Vote
Midgley, a Shafter merchant and pioneer, was unanimously reelected as a director at large of the Shafter Public Utility District. The annual election Tuesday afternoon attracted only 17 voters who all supported retaining the veteran board member.

New Physician Joins Shafter Practice at Midgleys Sunset Home

Sam L Becker of Shafter returned from a three day stay in Los Angeles after attending the Farmers Automobile Inter-Insurance Exchange tenth annual convention held April 28 29 and 30 with delegates from 17 western states. Funeral services were held in Lodi for Mrs. George Prezler 67 who died recently. The Rev. Mr. Zenk of the Lodi Reformed church officiated.
