Shafter high school led the Sierra League track meet with 119 1/3 points on Saturday. McFarland placed second with 95 1/3, Maricopa third with 74 1/3, and Tehachapi last at 35. William B. Wilson 63 a Rio Bravo district farmer died after a heart attack at his home. A Taft and Bakersfield veteran he leaves a widow two daughters Frances Wilson Irene Wilson and four sons Vercil Paul Calvin Harlin all listed. Funeral services were held in Bakersfield with Rev Norman Crider and burial in Bakersfield Memorial Cemetery.

Explosion Injures Two At Ranch
Clarence Neuman suffered serious hand and body burns and Mrs. Neuman was less seriously injured in a gas explosion at their ranch home Friday evening. They received first aid then were transported to Bakersfield hospital by Janzen ambulance. The blast began when Neuman entered the basement and saw the pilot light explode enveloping him in flames. Mrs. Neuman went to assist and was burned on the hands. She left the hospital after a few days while Mr. Neuman remained in critical condition with extensive skin burns to hands and arms.

Honors Given To Ball Players
Ten Shafter high school boys received awards for the 1938 basketball season in a Friday morning assembly in the high school auditorium. Glenn Nay directed the program as the band provided music. Eight players earned stars for prior blocks, two freshmen Leroy Witcher and Wilbur Kirschenmann received clocks, and several students in A and B classes were named stars. Neuman Hein and Elmer Unruh received the All American blanket. Neuman had been named the most valuable football player, Hein the top varsity basketball player, and Unruh earned B class distinction.

Cotton Planting Progress in Shafter Area Trails Dry Weather
