Pies fetch high bids at Shafter society fundraiser
The Shafter Historical Society held a bi annual membership drive with a pie auction at Veterans Hall raising 2200 dollars. Forty seven pies sold with bids from 15 to 105 dollars each. Notable purchases included a 100 dollar pecan pie and a 105 dollar cherry cream cheese pie. Bill Goertzen won five pies and Jake Bergen six. A Festival Barbecue is planned for May 14 and volunteers are sought for service shifts.

Junior High pushes drug education at Richland
Judy Anderson told the Richland Board of Trustees that staff will boost drug awareness and education for students and monitor drug availability and symptoms. Public Schools Week is set for April 25 to 29 with open houses to involve parents and the community. The board also approved a contract to use Stone for computerized services while retaining the Apple II for finance, business, and writing.
