Andrew Reaves of Shafter is killed in a tractor accident near Juniper Avenue and Lerdo. Gregory Billington witnessed the event. Reaves attached jumper cables as the tractor started, dragging him under a wheel. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Agee Funeral Home, with burial in Shafter Memorial Park. Reaves, 53, was born in England Arkansas and worked for Ronnie Billington. He is survived by his wife Mary, two sons Chris and Randy, a daughter Dianne, seven brothers and five sisters, plus two grandchildren. Pallbearers are Denver Douglas, Carl Tuck, Roy Taylor, James Preston, Richard Van Zant and Ray Woodard.

Roger Fenderson of Shafter has been elected to lead the California Association of Residences for Retarded at the C A R R annual convention aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach. He and his wife run Fenderson's Rainbow Haven a 25 bed home for exceptional children and have guided the group since its inception ten years ago helping it grow to over 2 000 beds statewide.
