Four Peters win honors at the Shafter High School Future Farmers of America banquet. John Peters, son of Mr and Mrs John Peters, received the California Bankers Association Certificate award. Weston Futrell of Community National Bank presented the award and spoke on bankers supporting farming. Honorary memberships were added for Clarence Foster Bernard Dooley and others as the chapter introduced members and officers and theme of job opportunities in farming.

Ground was broken Sunday at noon for a new parsonage by the Mennonite Brethren church at Callifornia and Calloway streets. Important Plans To Be Studied By Councilmen Budget To Be Set Soon
Five items led by Mayor Harvey Gaede will be studied at a night council meeting on next year’s program. Major aims include storm improvement purchases, codification of ordinances, and a new budget with a replacement program for trucks and equipment. Codifying Shafter ordinances may cost 15 000 to 20 000 dollars plus filing and printing.
