Early Day Shafter Man Dies After Stroke En Route to Hospital
Linden bance a farmer and Kern Chatty wassailed died early Monday morning following a stroke. He was 77 and died while being moved by ambulance to a Wasco hospital one hour and nine minutes after the stroke occurred at his home in Shafter. He came to Kern County from Lodi in 1919 and married Katie Bender in 1910. The Handels observed their Golden Wedding in 1960. Their daughter Elma and her husband Harlin Wilson live on the Handel homestead. He farmed and cared for vineyards, later growing cotton and potatoes. He was senior partner in F. W Handels Farming with his son-in-law. He kept an office at 230 Central Valley Highway, Shafter.

Rooster Mystery and Thefts Reported in Shafter
A Shafter resident reported March 12 that her purse was stolen from the patio. A 15 year old was caught driving a stolen car that contained Woods credit cards used for gas and two new tires costing 109 dollars. The car ride reached Palmdale Tehachapi and Bakersfield. A black and silver rooster valued at 15 dollars was stolen. Other thefts included clothing from a laundromat and two tires from a residence.

First Offense Drunk Driving Fine in Justice Court

Two high school teams the Generals and the faculty met on March 15 at Shafter court. After a 47 47 tie the game went to two overtimes with a 56 53 final in favor of the Generals. Outstanding for the faculty were Goalie Gilbert and Black.
