Retiring Shafter Fire Captain Joins 30 Years of Service

Guide Dog Puppies Grow Through Volunteer Training Network
April Powell, aged 12, has spent three years in a program that raises guide dog puppies in volunteer homes. Puppies learn manners while accompanying families, and Rosemary the Labrador recently graduated as a guide dog to Dennis Shepard of Tucson. Dogs are born at kennels, raised for 14 to 18 months, then return for formal guidework training.
