Chris DiSalvo of GMC Roofing and Build me Paper Products Inc spoke with President Bush during a small business gathering at Rain For Rent in Bakersfield. DiSalvo noted his firm began in Shafter in 2002 with a projected $10 million earning, later doubling that, and cited 2003 tax relief enabling reinvestment and job growth plans including a $1.1 million expansion in 2004 creating five to six new positions.

Bill Hatcher retires as KHSD Superintendent after a 40 year education career beginning at Shafter High School in 1964. He taught 15 years, served as principal at East Bakersfield and Centennial High, then as KHSD Assistant Superintendent of Instruction before becoming Superintendent in 1999.

Vidal Mora named SHS candidate for Boy's State in June
Shafter High School Junior Vidal Mora was chosen by the SHS Post commander for Boy's State, to be held in Sacramento in June 1926. He is son of Atanacia Sanchez, aims for further schooling or a business career, and has led in Mock Trial, MECHA, MESA, and Key Club while playing football and golf. Alternate Jose Lopez, a 4.143 GPA student, attends soccer and church cooking program, and both wrote essays on What America Means to Me as this week’s guest editorial.
