Kern County Building Permits Down in January Report
The Kern County Board of Trade reports a broad decline in building activity across Kern cities in January 1993. Total permits fell 43 percent from January 1992, with Shafter down 84 percent and Taft down 11 percent. Single family permits dropped from 284 to 150. 11 multi family permits were issued versus 107 the prior year. 166 commercial permits totaled 5.8 million dollars, down from 6.9 million. The total value was 25,049,440 compared with 43,891,976 last year. City variations included Bakersfield down 26 percent, Delano plunging, and California City and others showing large declines. The report notes residential construction carried downturns and expects February totals to rise modestly due to a State Farm Insurance permit.
