Police say Mrs. Ora Belle Pererra 56 was charged with murder in the shotgun slaying of her husband Manuel Brown Pererra 56 at their Seventh Standard Road ranch last Sunday night. She admitted the shooting during a money dispute after claiming he had beaten her. She surrendered after going to a Shafter bar and asking authorities to call for help. Funeral services for Pererra were held at Flickinger Janzen Funeral Home. Vote April 11.

Judge Collects Speeding Fines In Shafter Township
Justice of the Peace E. K. Grant notes $100 in speeding fines collected this week in the outer Shafter area. Clarence Cates, 37, Santa Ana, paid $50 after a delay, for a Highway 99 speeding ticket. Richard Houghland, 31, Bakersfield, paid $50 on February 21 for the same highway charge.

In Shafter two women Rachel Howard and Kate Fisher were sentenced to 60 days in the county jail for child neglect.
