George Fox aged 83, longtime Shafter resident, died in a Bakersfield hospital Saturday after a brief illness. He had lived in Kern county 28 years and resided at 177 East Lerdo Road. Services are set for Wednesday at 2 pm at the Seventh Day Adventist church in Shafter. burial in Shafter Cemetery. Survived by daughters Esther Neuman Mary K Weitz Kathleen Thomas, a son John P Fox, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Born August 23 1864 in Russia.

Local Firemen Grapple Week End Blazes Across Wasco Rio Bravo
Shafter fire crews assisted Wasco on a South Gate store fire and fought a 500 acre grass and brush fire in Rio Bravo with Bakersfield Taft and Highland Park units. They also tackled an air duct fire at the State theatre and a power pole fire on Madera Avenue, all with no injuries.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power provided 115000 kilowatts of surplus power from Seal Beach Alameda and Harbor steam plants to Northern and Central California. Deliveries to the north will total about 2910000 kilowatt hours daily, aided by Glendale’s 20000 kilowatts. Transmission runs via Southern California Edison to Pacific Gas and Electric.
