Gasoline Tank Truck Fire Threatens City
A Norwalk tank truck carrying 6000 gallons of gasoline caught fire at Santa Fe Way and Central Avenue Saturday around 7 30 am. A faulty extinguisher and a failing blanket failed to quell the blaze until Arnot Annis of the Shafter Volunteer Fire Department brought an extinguisher. The new city fire truck arrived within three minutes, driven by Waldo Unruh, and flames were controlled with on board extinguishers. The cause was reported as a backfire through the carburetor.

Four Business Houses Robbed in Shafter Monday Morning
Four Shafter business houses were robbed early Monday morning. At Gilmore station five corners, Richfield station Santa Fe Way, Shafter highway, and Myrick's store Santa Fe Way, thieves took a cigarette machine at two sites and a cash register at Myrick's. About $50 in cash cigars and cigarettes were stolen. the items were recovered near Rosedale. Detectives Con stable Blake Witcher and Chief John Reily lead the probe. no solid leads yet. The spree follows two prior robberies last week, one resolved with four arrests. Police believe the robberies occurred between 2 and 4 a m.

Injured Man Recovers After Accidental Shot At Potato Shed
