Graveside Service Held At Local Cemetery
A graveside service was held at Shafter cemetery for Marvin R. Montgomery 59 who died Saturday in Las Vegas Nevada from an accident. Montgomery worked in defense in Nevada at the time of death. Local funeral arrangements were by the Janzen home. Surviving include widow Nannie Montgomery four sons Raymond Harry Homer and Larry and a daughter Vesta all residents of Shafter.

Blackout Methods To Be Asked At Maple Meeting

Shafter Irrigation District Names Attorney at Dissolution Hearing
H E Schmidt was named to assist Ernest Tuttle as attorney for the Shafter Wasco Irrigation District in a dissolution hearing to be held in Superior Court. Bonds of district directors were renewed at a Tuesday meeting at the district office on Santa Fe Way. District assessor secretary Fred Pritschke reported a bank balance of 168.83 after current bills are paid and noted unpaid assessments from 1938 39 and 40 totaling 2363.19 bearing interest. Thefts Reported at Two Shafter Service Stations
Robberies hit two Shafter service stations on Tuesday. Ralph Smith station at Smith Corner was broken into early morning, Falcon Oil Company on Santa Fe Way was struck late Tuesday. Four men were detained. two adults received 60 days in a road camp, two minors sent to juvenile authorities. A cash register and petty items were taken. about $72 and a check were missing. The register reappeared between local vineyards. No Falcon station arrests yet.

Olga Clara Neufeld Rites Held At First Mennonite Church
Funeral service for Olga Clara Neufeld aged 27 was conducted Thursday at the First Mennonite church with Rev. Edgar Toews and Rev. Chris Ummel officiating. Burial followed at Shafter cemetery. She died February 28 at Kern General hospital Bakersfield after a four month illness. She was born in Aberdeen Idaho and lived in the Rio Bravo district. She taught in the church Sunday school since joining in 1937 and had been married since May 1941. Surviving are her husband John K Neufeld her father and stepmother Mr and Mrs John J Unruh a sister Mrs Clifford van Sant Oakland seven uncles six aunts and other relatives.
