Growers and industry back drastic day a week power cut in Kern County as agricultural pumping and large industrial plants halt today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Shafter Wasco district and north of Kern River. American Legion Auxiliary plans April pot luck dinner
At the Legion Hall last Tuesday the American Legion Auxiliary organized a pot luck dinner for April 3 with proceeds aiding a child welfare project. Members reported $80 raised from a Norges apron and bake sale. A new baby daughter of Dorothy Sukut will receive $2 to a savings fund. Initiation for new members is set for April 20 with Lindsay drill team assisting.

Building permits totaling over $33 000 were issued last month by city building inspector E. K. Grant. Leading the list is a $12 000 new home east of the railroad tracks by George Vannutta near Tulare and Cross streets in the Kirschenmann addition. Jack Hare Inc. received a $10 000 permit for remodeling and moving a potato shed from Rosedale. Rev. Gordon C. Jans began a $7 000 home north of California Avenue. Five Mexican Colony youths arrested on drinking charges
Five youths from the Mexican Colony were arrested during the weekend for drunkenness disturbing the peace and related offenses. Three under 18 were released to parents. Robert Hernandez 19 born in Shafter received a suspended 125 day county road camp sentence plus a $250 fine for buying liquor for minors. Joe Herrera 18, also born locally, faces pending charges. Grover Sherrell 23 of North Shafter Farm Labor Camp got 180 days with 55 suspended for one year. will serve 125 days after violating a prior suspended sentence.
