Mrs Paul Epler cousin of Dwight D Eisenhower spoke to Assembly of God members on the martyrdom of Christians in Colombia South America. She and her Corcoran residents will depart soon for a missionary assignment in the West Indies.
The Ninth Genen Conference of the Fellowships will convene March 7 and 8 at First Baptist Church. About 53 Fellowship members from California and Arizona will attend to share gospel outreach from farm labor camps. E L Rasmussen and C S Lovett will present on visual aids and evangelism topics.
A group of about 45 high school and college students will ride a chartered Greyhound bus to Disneyland this Saturday. Two lay sponsors, John L Nickel and Lawrence Schellenberg, accompany them. They will spend the day at the Walt Disney Center and return to Shafter that evening.
The Ladies of the First Mennonite Church sewing circle plan a cake and pastry sale in front of the Central Market on Saturday March 23 starting at 10 30 a m. Items include cake pies yeast breads rolls and coffee cakes. Mrs Al Nikkel presided the meeting at the Golden West Avenue church.
The Shafter City Council adopts Ordinance No 114 approving annexation of the Siemens and Bartel tract to the city. The action follows hearings on February 25 1957 and sets conditions including sewer water and cost sharing with the Shafter Public Utility District. A public notice period and publication are outlined. Ruth Seigall is hired to teach English at Kern County Union High School District.

Gene D Nichols son of Mr and Mrs John Nichols of Central Valley highway completed recruit training Feb 28 at the Marine Corps Depot. He received instruction in all basic military subjects and the firing of basic infantry weapons before assignment to Camp Pendleton California or Marine Corps schools for further training. Mr and Mrs Johnnie Brown of Boron and their children Floyd Earl and Donna were Sunday guests at the home of Mrs Brown's father Leon Templeton.
