Cotton Research Council Formed to Meet in Shafter
The California Cotton Research Council formed to advise small cotton production research. The 43 member body meets at the U S Cotton Research Station in Shafter with 29 growers 7 grower organization reps and 7 industry reps. Ron Allen was elected chairman and Eugene Egan vice chairman. An April 22 meeting date was set for the first annual session at Shafter Station.

McLeod Named Buttonwillow Mayor After Landslide Victory
Rex McLeod, long time Buttonwillow Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club leader, won the mayoral race with 23 000 votes at the annual Chamber dinner in the school auditorium. He succeeds Dutch Houchin, who served four terms. Bill Tracy and Von Lightbody trailed in the mayoral vote with 7353 and 4061 respectively.
