Cradle Count records Bradley Walker Beatty as a newborn son of Stephen and Donna Beatty. He weighed eight pounds fourteen and three quarters ounces and measured twenty one and a half inches at birth. Grandparents are Clara Davis of Shafter Earl and Eileen Beatty of Irvine and Elizabeth Beatty of Saratoga. Great grandmother Carri Beukma of Irvine.

Kiwanis Club screens Getty film on business life

The Kiwanis Club heard Tom Spencer of Getty Oil discuss billionaire J Paul Getty and his film A Man s Perspective on Business and Life. Spencer, joined by Dick Foster, spoke about Getty s personal interest in employees and the Santa Monica Getty Art Museum.

Students to present It's a Small World at Shafter School

More than 500 Iceland Primary School students will perform songs and dances from around the world in a Tuesday 7:30 pm program at Shafter Auditorium. Classes representing America Europe Africa Mexico Hawaii and more will participate with teachers aiding and no admission charge.

Art show to begin here Saturday

Kern County Parks and Recreation hosts ten area art shows with entries from kindergartners to adults. The first two exhibits run Saturday and Sunday 1 PM to 5 PM at Norris Road Veterans Hall Oildale and Shafter Veterans Hall. May 7 to 25 at Cunningham Art Gallery. Mary Miller and Kalman J. Starrh seeks election to Kern County high school board

Shafter farmer Fred L. Starrh announces his bid for a seat on the Kern County High School District Board. He cites a belief in public office rights and his concern for the educational system, noting prior service on Richland School District boards and local committees. He is former president of the Kern County Farm Bureau.

Shafter AARP Holds February Meeting and Board Candidacy

The Shafter AARP met February 21 with Vice President Edwin Crane presiding. Twelve new members joined in February, bringing total to 63. After the business session, January and February birthday members were honored with cake and coffee. George Starrh read the by-laws and announced he will serve no more than two terms on the High School District Board, citing a pro public service stance. Starrh, a farm manager and owner, resides in Shafter with wife Nancy and four children, with one child in each Kern County education level.

Local organist to compete in Bach music festival

Alan Rogers, Shafter High Senior, was chosen to compete in the regional Junior Bach Festival in Pomona on March 6 after a Bakersfield district event on Feb. 6. He performed Prelude in D Minor on a pipe organ among 47 participants. The regional winner advances to Sacramento for the state competition. Alan is the son of Mr and Mrs John A Rogers and studies with Mrs Dorothy Clark in Bakersfield.

Used Book Sale by Kern High District Faculty Wives

The annual sale benefits the scholarship fund with past grants to Shafter High students. It runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bakersfield High School cafeteria. Donors may call Jodi Olsen at 746-6150 or drop items in the high school office box.

Heritage Days Queen Contest Seeks Kern County Applicants

Applications are open for the Heritage Days Celebration Queen contest for Kern County women ages 17 to 30 of all marital statuses. Judges will assess poise personality and knowledge of Kern County history. Contact Kern County Museum Bakersfield or Mrs Merry Williams for details. Entry deadline is April 1 1977 with event dates April 30 and May 1.
