Shafter Planning Commission Faces Sparse Public Hearings
At its last meeting the Shafter Planning Commission allotted time for eight public hearings for February sixteen and continued two project changes to allow staff to draft procedures. The discussion focused on the Draft Land Use Element and residential zoning with three density zones and lot size percentages. The plan would let developers choose zones. critics urged smaller lots due to costs. The commission set March fifteen for a public hearing on adopting the land use element and directed staff to prepare final draft. Additional matters included several conditional use hearings for a Garden Office building and a temporary restroom facility, with hearings continued to March fifteen. a tract for 18 single-family units and six triplexes faced a continued hearing. a tie vote on whether to require an environmental impact report for a promobile home park, later adjusted to five to one against, pending LAFCO requirements. A D zone proposal would require building plans and allow adjustments, with permits contingent on planning commission approval. The panel also recommended issuing a business license to Art Kadel for auto parts and restoration.
