Shafter Summer Recreation Program Grows Since 1946
The Shafter summer recreation program expanded from a 1946 start under Roy Farrell with a $500 budget to today’s $8,000 budget and a staff of 26. It began with crafts and story hour, added eight softball teams, and after 1948 pool adoption at Richland School improved with bus trips to Shafter Airport, earning countywide notice.
