Wesley R. Staudacher Dies At 50 Funeral set for Bakersfield journalist
Wesley R. Staudacher longtime Shafter Press general manager died after a cancer battle. Born in Wisconsin he lived in Montana Idaho California and was active in Shafter civic groups. Services at Doughty Calhoun and O'Meara Funeral Chapel in Bakersfield with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. He is survived by his widow Jean and son Bill, plus his parents and siblings.

Gates Family Plans European Trip After Folio Fellowship
Mr and Mrs Robert L Gates and daughter Mary of 415 Faber plan a month in Mount Hermon then two weeks in Philadelphia and Alexandria Virginia before sailing from Norfolk on August 17. The trip follows a fellowship won by Mr Yates Shafter High School social studies instructor as part of a national program for 1954-55 teachers. They will visit Newfoundland England Paris and many European nations, with possible Denmark Belgium Italy Spain and Switzerland and perhaps Jordan Israel Turkey.

Funeral Held for Mrs Dobrenen in Shafter After Illness
A funeral service for Mrs Dobrenen, who died in her sleep from a heart attack on June 16, was held with Pastor Fred Valov officiating. Native of Kars, Russia, she and her family moved to California years ago and was survived by sons Edward, John, Iliam, and Alex, daughters Jennie Echeque and Mary Krenen, and two grandchildren Anna, Susan, and David Dobrenen. Interment followed at Shafter Cemetery.

Experts project the Kern County Long White Potato crop valuation to reach about 26 million dollars, up nearly five million from last year, as shipments move in the peak harvest. The new California Marketing Order limits grades to U S No 2 or better, aiding orderly markets and higher prices. Approximately 525 carloads daily are dispatched, with harvest to conclude by mid July and main harvest by July 3, shipping nationwide and to Canada Alaska Hawaii and Mexico.

Church Welcomes French Africa Missionaries
The First Baptist Church hosted Reverend Jim Halbert his wife and three children on leave from the mission field in French West Africa. A church gift supported by Fred Schardt will buy a tropicalized portable organ suited to hot climates.
