W B Camp Inducted Into South Carolina Hall of Fame
W B Camp a South Carolina native and Clemson graduate earned posthumous honors as the father of California cotton. Sent to the San Joaquin Valley in 1917 to start cotton experiments he proved Acala cotton best suited to California. Camp helped establish Shafter Experimental Station in 1922 and led advocacy for California's One Variety Cotton Act of 1925 later allowing Pima cotton. Son D M Camp accepted the award.

Landa gets two years in Wasco youth stabbing case
Alex Landa, 18, Bakersfield, was sentenced to two years by Superior Court Judge John S. Kelly after pleading guilty to conspiracy in the March 4 death of Wasco youth Marcopolo Rocha. Eriberto Reyna, 16, Shafter, faces trial for first degree murder, continued to August 2. Ralph Montes, 19, Shafter, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon and will be sentenced July 8. An unnamed youth, 15, from Shafter, linked to three gangs, was captured weeks after the incident.
