Shafter High School awarded 233 diplomas at commencement on Thursday evening as proud families recorded the moment. Seniors adjusted caps and gowns while teary farewells and hugs framed the ceremony. Vendors and videographers captured the proceedings as teachers balanced directing speeches with preserving the celebratory mood.
The fourth in a series of Together We Can meetings will take place Tuesday June 22 at 7 p m in Richland Lerdo Primary School Cafeteria at Wall Avenue corner. The Buttonwillow Recreation and Park District hosts its third Contributors Banquet on June 26 at 133 E First St. The All Aboard the S.S. Buttonwillow theme promises awards and social hour from 5:30 p.m. with a tri- tip dinner at 7 p.m. Entertainment is planned.

Ramon Leon remains at large. he was released by mistake while under custody, all tied to the Shafter gang Vario West Side.
Bakersfield man David Eugene Shamblin, 27, was arrested at 5 a.m. Sunday at a Shafter residence on spousal abuse and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm. Police found blood in the home after responding to screams at 422 Munzer St. The victim named was Christina Shamblin, 26.
