Three area farmers near Seventh Standard Road told Shafter Planning Commission they fear odor, water quality issues, pests, and pesticide effects from a planned wastewater plant. They cited lack of notice, possible land devaluation, and water well contamination worries as they questioned pipeline routing under Seventh Standard Road and overall communications.

Stabbing Death in Shafter After Late Night Fight
A 32 year old Shafter man, Christopher John Aguirre, died after a stabbing Tuesday in the 300 block of Village Avenue around 11 p.m. Two suspects were involved. Alfredo Gomez Gonzales, 30, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. June 13 and booked into Kern County Jail. The second suspect remains at large with a warrant issued. Police say the stabbing may have been retaliation for an earlier dispute.
