Building permits drop sharply in Kern County April
Countywide building permits fell in April with Shafter recording a 99 percent drop from $2,483,460 in April 1992 to $16,443 in April 1993. Year to date totals also slipped 36 percent. CAR noted California existing home sales eased due to weather and cautious buyers, with a possible May rebound.

Pit bull attack injures seven year old in Shafter
A seven year old boy was attacked by a pit bull terrier in his Shafter yard on Saturday around 6 50 PM. The dog, reportedly a recent gift from a grandfather, was restrained after neighbors struck it with a bat. The boy, Jonathan Beltran, was taken to Kern Medical Center after deputies and an ambulance arrived.
