General Petroleum aims Wagner No 2 completion in Shafter field

General Petroleum plans to bring in Wagner No 2 in the Shafter field tomorrow afternoon, the first completion since January. Depth about 11 350 feet with drilling near 11 300 feet, two weeks after casing was cemented atop oil sand at 11 263 feet. Drilling expected to take about 125 days. Bell and Loffiland to manage.

Veteran publishers reunite at Shafter meeting

Alfred Harrell publisher of the Bakersfield Californian and J E Richmond publisher of the Hanford Sentinel and Hanford Journal met in Shafter at a South San Joaquin Valley CNPA unit gathering. Harrell became publisher February 1, 1897, while Richmond edged ahead by ten days.

The 11-2 Vedder sand well in the Greeley field delivers 15000 barrels per day from the Vedder formation. The discovery, first drilled into Vedder sand at Greeley, has shifted valley expectations and suggests Vedder underlies much of the south San Joaquin floor. Oil gravity is 36.5 degrees with 15 million cubic feet of gas daily.

Truck Crash Kills Driver, Shafter Woman Loses Leg

A truck crash on the Golden State highway 18 miles south of Bakersfield killed Robert W. Britton 29 and badly injured Lorena Hale 20 who had her leg amputated. Fellow worker Charles Wilson suffered a broken leg as the rig plunged into a canal after Britton swerved to avoid a car. Mrs Hale, from Shafter, received emergency surgery at San Joaquin hospital after four transfusions. The truck belonged to E. D. Hammond of Shafter and was loaded with six tons of potatoes for Los Angeles.

Plum shipments expected to start first week from Shafter area

Plum picking and shipping are forecast to begin the first week with about 20 cars planned from the Shafter area. The operation, lasting roughly one month, will be headquartered at the Shafter Fruit Company shed on Santa Fe Way with L. E. Bryan directing locally.
