Flag Day Observance Urges Community Support
The Shafter-Wasco Elks urged residents to honor Flag Day on June 14 with a public display of patriotism. Local Elks, about 1.7 million nationwide, will participate in a ceremony to renew faith in America. E Ley Wagner and Brother Stacy called on citizens of Shafter Wasco and Buttonwillow to join in honoring the flag, a symbol of freedom, amid international crises. The Elks, who have long endorsed Flag Day since 1908, note the holiday became official in 1949 by President Truman.
