The Generation Gap program and grants totaling about $6500 were awarded to Shafter High School seniors at the annual Awards Assembly held Wednesday. Karin Stastny, a 16 year old from Vienna Austria, has been selected by American.
Mrs. Shirley Kodet announced AF S field services for next fall at Shafter High. Sixteen hundred dollars in cash scholarships were awarded at the Senior Awards Assembly. A record 186 seniors will graduate at Commencement on Thursday evening. Mrs. Helen Hasty was named one of 30 participants in the Institute for Advanced Study into Geography at the Bakersfield Center Fresno State College from June 21 to July 30.

The California Cotton Planting Seed Distributors board of directors in Bakersfield approved a $432 580 allocation for 1975 76 research. Funds support UC specialists and the USDA Shafter station with $270 000 for Shafter and the rest for specific university projects including varietal screening, air pollution problems, pest control, water management, and soil treatments. The money comes from a $27 per ton seed tax on San Joaquin Valley growers.
The Shafter Lions Club presented a 1500 check to Maurice Perstein executive director of the California Nevada Lions Eye Foundation hospital in San Francisco at a recent meeting. Proceeds from the February Lions Charity horse racing meet at Joe O Brien's track in Shafter funded the gift. Out of town dignitaries included Bob Simontacci of Crockett and Dr Dale Anderson of Bakersfield. Bakersfield College appoints Dr Kenneth Fahsbender as associate dean of instruction for occupational education effective July 1 after approval by Kern Community College District. Fahsbender, former BC administrator and Taft Community College dean, succeeds Fred Ittner and has a long career spanning BC Taft Delaware University and local high schools. He emphasizes applying ideas to meet community needs and balancing vocational with professional education.
