Juveniles Find Crime Doesn’t Pay in Shafter
Ten juveniles including six from Delano and Bakersfield were rounded up by Shafter police for curfew violations and liquor possession. Six were remanded to juvenile authorities after admitting alcohol use. William Walter Bruno of Bakersfield was released on bail after being charged with furnishing liquor to a minor. A juvenile girl in a Shafter car at 4:45 a.m. was charged with curfew violation.

City Council weighing long range pay schedule for city employees
The Shafter city council discussed a multi phased salary schedule for city employees at its regular meeting Monday night and will revisit it at an adjourned session on June 18 at 7 p.m. The Kern County Employees Association delegation led by Fred Ward of Bakersfield presented the items for consideration.

Shafter High School plans 164 diplomas at Thursday commencement
Shafter High School 164 seniors will receive diplomas at the 39th annual commencement Thursday at 7 p.m. in the stadium. Dr. Richard M. Swank of California State College Bakersfield will deliver the address on Opportunities and You. The program opens with Ann Christensen’s organ precession and closes with a recessional.

Festival is Big Success Prizes Won at Shafter Potato Festival
The three day Shafter 1969 Potato Festival ended with a grand prize drawing Saturday night. Jim Hamilton of the Shafter Retail Merchants Division said thousands enjoyed rides and shopping. about 300 attended the prize drawing and winners received lamps, savings accounts, dinners, watches, chairs, radios, cakes, frames, luncheon for two, gift certificates, bicycles, sandals, a drill, and more.
