Shafter Launches Summer Play Program Under Ford
Shafter begins a summer program next Monday directed by R Eugene Ford with day long high school tennis courts and nightly ping pong badminton and games at the high school Sunday through Friday. Two baseball leagues start June 22 the major league night ball with six teams and 830 to 10 schedule and the Twilight league for boys 16 and under from 7 to 830 on the same days. The program is shortened this season due to lack of WPA help and those wanting baseball spots should contact Ford immediately.

Two Minters Die in Training Plane Crash
A flying instructor and an aviation cadet were killed Tuesday when their training plane crashed near Minter Field. The victims were Lieut. Ralph A. Robedeau, 25, of Portland, Oregon, and Aviation Cadet Glenn J. McKean, 23, of Dulliver, Iowa.

Shafter service clubs schedule 15 parties to entertain Minter Field soldiers between now and the year end. The first event features the Rotary Club hosting the Minter Field band at the Potato Growers and Shippers party at Bit Lachoen major ranch with barbecue and entertainment. Each club allocates 15 dollars for party expenses from the Shafter Army Recreation fund and must arrange through Eugene Ford or Captain Lee Frankovich.
