Puppy stolen after death of Holt pets on Central Avenue
A puppy named Killer, a gift to Jim Holt following the deaths of his dogs, was stolen Wednesday near Central Avenue. Holt suspects a group of women, one seen near the back fence, handed the dog to a person in a car. Killer resembled a Collie, is nearly all black, and was cherished like his other pets. Timely Temblor Shakes Shafter and Kern County
A 5.0 magnitude earthquake hit Shafter near Tehachapi at 9:47 p.m. on Thursday. The quake, the strongest since 1952, caused rolling ground motion, rattling residents, with minimal loss of life and aftershocks across Wasco and Bakersfield area. Historic clock tower damage noted in Bakersfield, replica now at Pioneer Village.

Holt and Bear Hit the Road for Springfield Adventure
Jim Holt plans a June motorcycle trip to Springfield Missouri on his 1983 Venture Royale Yamaha. He will be accompanied by Bear a six month old border collie mix on a custom platform. Bear’s parentage includes a border collie and a Hawaii working dog breed. Holt’s dogs Dirty Harry and Harriet died after ingesting poisoned food on February 6, 1993 near his Central Avenue bargain shop. Dirty Harry had traveled with Holt for eight years racking up over 60000 miles across the United States and Canada bringing joy to fans from Quebec to Bermuda.
