Number 5 SHS says goodbye to Class of 2014
The Shafter High School Class of 2014 celebrated its graduation with a May 28 commencement in the football stadium. Band director Nick Rodriguez led the processional of graduates to Pomp and Circumstance while Valerie Black served as mistress of ceremonies. Principal Connie Sack lauded the graduates as Generals and lifelong family members of Shafter High. Aristotle Galiza delivered a moving appreciation speech translated by Jesus Lopez. Student speakers Stephany Dang and Maria Trujillo thanked families and teachers, pledging to continue in higher education or work. Head Counselor Lydia Caceres announced Academic Awards for the class.

The Memorial Day Service at Shafter Cemetery included opening remarks by Unit President Sue Hooker, an invocation by Charles Jester, a color ceremony by Boy Scout Troop 20810, a reading of Flanders Fields by Daisy Sepulveda, and speakers Mayor Jon Johnston and Deputy Chief Brian Smith. Wreaths were placed, Taps played, and benediction given.

Farewell Rally for Principal Hutchinson at Richland Junior High
Richland Junior High Trojans staged a May 30 farewell in the campus amphitheater for principal Jason Hutchinson who departs in July for Boise Idaho. Students presented a banner and a Dodgers gift bag with game tickets, praising his leadership and impact on test scores, graduation, and school culture.
