Shafter woman injured in crash as two die
Linda Kay Perry of Shafter remained in satisfactory condition at Kern General Hospital after a Sunday crash that killed Geneva Cathcart and Alvin Collier, both Bakersfield residents, while Jose Tindle of Wasco received minor injuries. Police say Tindle stopped at a stop sign before pulling out in front of Perry as she traveled at 50 to 55 mph. Bicycle registrations begin Thursday at the Shafter Fire Station with a $1 fee and must be completed by owners on site.

Two Men Arrested in Shafter Kidnap Case
A 21 year old Shafter woman was kidnapped at gunpoint on Sunday in the 100 block of South Shafter Avenue and taken about four miles south. Police arrested two suspects aged 20 and 21, Shafter area residents, as the investigation continues and the pistol used remains unfound.

Shafter High to Install 16 Driving Simulators in September
Shafter High School will place 16 driving simulators in service this September. The units include full left-side car replicas with film projections, a master control console, and an information feedback system to train students in 12 hours of simulator work plus 3 hours of behind the wheel.
