Shafter Boy Takes Second in AAU Track Meet
Randy White, son of Mr and Mrs Bryan White of Shafter, finished second in the boys 14 15 one mile at the Boye National AAU Track and Field Meet in Pasadena, with a time of 4 38 behind the winner 4 35. He qualified fourth in the Saturday heat among 30 competitors, clocking 4 47. The top ten ran the final on Sunday at Pasadena City College.

Mealy bug hunt targets Shafter area in a pest search
State Agriculture representatives visited Shafter to collect city maps and set traps as a crew searches for the Comstock Mealy Bug, recently appearing in Porterville and now suspected in Shafter. SHS Grad Wounded By Gunman In Woodland Washington
Jack Ragsdale a 1956 SHS graduate and Woodland Police Chief was shot in the stomach during a botched robbery he shot the gunman and killed him. He remained in intensive care in Vancouver Washington with doctors hopeful for release in about two weeks.
