School boards discuss annexation and shared facilities

Richland and Lerdo boards held a joint meeting July 22 to review a contract for leasing eight Lerdo classrooms for the 1986 87 year and to explore district annexation. They noted renovation work, potential staff changes, and public hearing steps with no action beyond exploration.

Shafter City Council Sets Hearings and Budget Topics

The Shafter City Council met at 7 pm with Mayor Don Zachary and members Pro ut Hiebert and Thomas present. They proclaimed August 24 30 as National Association of Letter Carriers Appreciation Week. Three public hearings were set for August 11 on Zone Code Amendment No 86 1 and Zone Change No 863 plus the annual operating budget and revenue sharing funds. The council approved an annexation application for Northern Mud on Shafter Avenue and noted Ray Rose will begin as water conservation officer July 28. A Lucky Seven convenience store is planned at Pine and Lerdo Highway with site plans under city review. A 15 day appeal window remains for a Bree Drive variance. The new budget format was praised by Public Works Director Guinn and Police Chief Christensen for clarity.

SRPD Hears Bid for Sports Complex Restrooms and Concession Stand

Shafter Recreation and Parks District holds a special meeting on July 24 to consider a $68,000 bid for restrooms and a concession stand at the Sports Complex, with concerns over plans not being reviewed and a plan for a second meeting on July 31 at City Hall.

Change in City Billings Switches to Computer Billing

As of August 1 1986 all utility bills water trash and sewer will be billed via computer. Customers must bring the new statement to City Hall when paying and enclose it if mailing. City Hall will not have records of amounts due without the statement and bills may arrive later this month with an August 5 or 6 delivery.
