Tomorrow morning the Kern County Annual Swim Meet brings district winners to Shafter Pool for 9 30 start. Event classes from A to D include 10 to 16 year olds with 25 and 50 yard freestyle breast and back strokes plus relays and diving. Only two events per contestant and finals for top times plus AAU rules and butterfly breast stroke distinctions.

Funeral Rites Held For Bland and Snader In Bakersfield
Double funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church for John Snader age 64 and James Edward Bland age 53, brothers in law, who died 25 hours apart. Rev. Melvin Krug and Rev. Frank Higgins officiated. burial was in Shafter Cemetery. Snader had lived in Shafter 24 years. survived by wife Mrs. Harry M. Snader and two sons in Illinois. Shafter's blood drive last Thursday afternoon collected 22 pints for the local fund at the Houchin Community Blood Bank in Bakersfield. Officials attributed the small turnout to summer vacations. Services For Walter Shay Slated Friday
Funeral services for Walter Garfield Shay aged 52 will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Pentecostal Church. Rev. Kenneth Combs will conduct. Shay, long-time Shafter resident, owned a wrecking yard at Smiths Corners and died Monday at his home 18622 Shafter Avenue. He is survived by his wife Ima Gem Shay and his mother Mrs. Mary Turpin both of Shafter, plus a brother W. Turpin and sister Mrs. Violet Howard of Shafter.
