Housing bids to be opened for Shafter airfield project
Bids for housing 85 families for men at the Shafter airfield are expected to open around August 25 with work beginning about September 1. Union Oil continues operations on its 1-33 project on Pacific States property along the western edge of Shafter field. The well spud Saturday, with 1,524 feet of surface casing and a depth of 3,890 feet reached Tuesday morning as 2,366 feet were drilled in the prior 24 hours.
