Stabbing Death Prompts Multiple Arrests in Shafter
Shafter police investigated three major weekend crimes culminating in the stabbing death of Anthony Elizalde, 48. Debra Jennings 25 and Timothy Gentry 31 were charged with murder and burglary after a confrontation at 300 block Village Avenue. Warrant activity and further arrests followed including Rudolfo Ortiz fil 19 and Alberto Gutierrez 18 among others.

City, County approve plan for New Community Park phase one
The City of Shafter and Kern County approve an agreement funding phase one of a 20 acre park using $6 million in CDBG funds from the U S Department of Housing and Urban Development. The project total is about 1 005 970 dollars with Phase I covering 10 acres and a 3 to 6 month design period led by Jeremy Tobias.

City Council Approves Special Permits for Summer Activities
Last Tuesday the council approved 24 inch street signs for short named streets with most new signs in 36 inch format. Airport board pushes to finish Minter Village project

SHS outlines readiness events for fall sports with free physicals for grades ten to twelve on August six at the new gym. Freshmen must be cleared before August twenty five and the first practice days are August eleven for football volleyball and girls tennis.
