Suspect Admits Robbing Seven Homes In Bold Confession
A 9 year old suspect confessed to seven burglaries and eight attempted entries in Shafter, detailing each break in including July 5 through July 18 cases. He led officers to targeted homes, took items from wrists watches to a small safe, pennies and a silver dollar, and cited money as a motive while saying valuables were rarely taken.

Wasco Man Dies After North Shafter Crash
Wasco resident Thomas Leo Petker 51 died after a car driven by James Lister 39 struck the vehicle he and his wife rode in north of Shafter at Merced Avenue Avenue. Petker was pronounced dead at Kern General Hospital. Mrs Petker 46 and Lister were treated and released. Lister is held for prosecution.

Shafter Driver Convicted of Hit and Run and DUI
Clarence Anderson of Shafter was convicted on two counts of hit and run driving and driving while intoxicated in Municipal Court. He received 180 days with one day suspended at the Arvin Alcohol Rehabilitation Center for an incident at Central Avenue and Central Valley Highway. The victim, Mrs. Douglas Mitchell, an expectant mother, reported the crash at 8 a.m. on July 19. Williamson of Shafter was also arraigned this week for altering a payroll check.
