Friends from Shafter and Kern County gathered in San Luis Obispo to pay respects to Richard Stansbury 75 father of the Shafter colony. He helped found the 10 acre Shafter homestead in 1914 15 and served as pillar of local agriculture and lodge groups until retiring to Cayucos. He was born in Baltimore and emigrated to California in 1903 settling first at Alpaugh before moving to Shafter.

Sun-Dried Potatoes Considered For Stock Feed Trials
Indications that sun-dried potatoes may become valuable livestock feed emerged from experiments at Emil Goehring’s ranch near Shafter. Cattle readily ate the dried product, with trials planned for hogs, dairy cows, and Hereford calves using wet, ground, or cooked forms. Goehring has about a ton on hand, with tests continuing as raw spuds are exhausted and alfalfa hay supplements used.

Four local boys Elmer Unruh Dick Payne Ben Myers and Leroy Allen are at the county Y M C A camp at Portuguese Meadows for a week. Notting ham matriarch plans eastward pleasure flight
Mrs Mary Nottingham age 92 of Los Angeles announced during a Shafter visit at the Notting ham home that she will fly to Ohio and Illinois to visit her sons and a daughter. She called it a pleasure trip and noted she has flown back three times before.

Thompson seedless grapes from the Shafter district will begin picking next week led by S. P. Schultz A. R. Neu feld and E. H. Hofman. Grapes go to the C P C canning company for fruit salad use as vines run girdled for larger grapes. Mouser vineyard near the high school farm may start late next week if sugar hits 18 percent.

Oil company workers reached 10 350 feet at the 10 34 project in the Shafter field. The well, spudded June 13, sits in Section 34 near the center of the producing area, about midway between eastern and western boundaries. Drilling continues at 11 34, west of 10 34, with 11 34 slated as the next Union project in the field.
