Girl Injured in Attack During Hectic July Fourth Night
Shafter police reported a chaotic Fourth of July with more than 10 arrests. A 17-year-old was knocked down and beaten near Rodriguez Park, and a 17-year-old county resident struck a girl with jumper cables, drawing blood. An arrest list includes Rami Santiago on public drunk charges and a Delano warrant. Police say no formal gangs were involved. Continued on Page 5A.

Fireworks mark 4th in Shafter at SHS stadium
A large crowd enjoyed a free fireworks display at Shafter High School stadium preceded by baseball and entertainment. Local church band, performers, and a National Anthem singer provided added delight. Merchants’ donations funded the show with Chief Ratzlaff and the Fire Department praised for safety work.
