Nearly 800 men work on PG&E intertie lines across Northern and Central California. The Midway Substation at Buttonwillow is a major hub in an $18 million upgrade through 1970 to join a 500 000 volt system, enabling large power transfers and interconnection with the California Power Pool. By 1967 over 1 000 miles of 230 000 volt lines will be in operation, with heavy construction including two 500 000 volt circuits between Round Mountain and Table Mountain.
