Flooding of 272 Ponds Opens West Kern Aqueduct Prep
A 23 mile chain of 272 ponds north west of Buttonwillow is being flooded in two phases as part of the California Aqueduct precon solidation. Four ponds 200 by 500 feet each have been flooded this week, built by Peter Kiewit Sons Co in a 2.5 million project. The work, halted by a strike affecting 12 equipment operators, will resume with pumps along the West Side Canal and is funded by the State from Buena Vista Water Storage District.
