Epitome of the Week's News Roundup in Paris and Abroad
The week featured Russia and Japan mobilizing forces on the Amur border with Manchukuo while Japanese artillery reportedly sank and disabled Russian ships. Jadwiga Jedrzejowska defeated Alice Marble to reach the All-English final with Budge set to meet Von Cramm in Wimbledon. A Montreal farmer underwent brain surgery after a horse kick, the Count of Covadonga wed a Cuban beauty, nine killed in a Havana masonry tenement collapse, and Endeavor II to represent England in the Americas Cup. Budge later defeated Von Cramm for the All England crown as Amelia Earhart and Noonan sent SOS from mid Pacific. Honolulu faced a fatal sanitarium fire. A Shafter-like post office joke surfaced as a Leeds postcard finally arrived after 35 years.
