Absorption Plant Begins Operation in Shafter Field
Eight million cubic feet of gas daily are being processed at the Union-Superior absorption plant in Shafter, which started July 1 as scheduled. The plant, costing over 700000 dollars, will treat up to 20 million cubic feet daily and feed gas into state mains at 500 pounds pressure.

Geisinger 2 Oil Well Drills Deep In Shafter Field
The Geisinger No 2 well in the Shafter oil field reached 11 463 feet with a 2 200 barrel test flow and about 2 500 000 feet of gas. Superior Oil cuts drilling time as eight producing wells exist and two more drill. Standard Gasoline starts a gas booster plant to handle low pressure gas from General Petroleum wells with Combs Brothers under contract.

Potato shipments slack as 41 cars leave Shafter
Four thousand six hundred forty two cars of potatoes have departed Shafter this season with prices under 75 cents as the end nears. After peak digging three weeks ago activity eased though some growers held back for July Fourth. U S No 1s sold around 60 cents with some at 70, CMLs 40 to 55 and No 2s 15 to 30. Several crews finished for the season and buyers departed. only scattered digging remains.

Fire Started by Children Threatened Home at Smith's Corner
Fire believed caused by children burning cobwebs with paper torches threatened the home of Dick Hugo at Smith's Corner Tuesday. Shafter fire department arrived to find the flame extinguished with only a curtain damaged.

Accident at Lerdo and Scaroni injures Knecht and escapes Warkentine
Mrs. Ernest Knecht of Madera sustained a broken collar bone in a Sunday collision at the Lerdo road and Scaroni avenue intersection. She and Milton Warkentine were riding in a car driven east on Lerdo. Knecht was treated at Shafter. Both vehicles remained upright and left under their own power, with Warkentine’s machine wrecked.
