Fourth of July pets safety tips from Bakersfield SPCA
Bakersfield SPCA warns that fireworks and loud noises terrify cats and dogs causing many to run into streets during the holiday. Experts advise indoor containment, air conditioning, possible tranquilizers with vet guidance, safe disposal of fireworks, proper ID tags, and visiting local shelters if a pet is lost.

Precautions for Safe Fourth of July Fireworks
California State Fire Marshal urges observing local laws and following all firework directions. Use only approved devices outdoors away from homes, grass, and trees. Light one item at a time, keep a safe distance, soak used fireworks in water, and have a hose ready for a safe and sane celebration.

Farrell facing charges amid an out of court settlement
An audit obtained by The Press shows Farrell paid $10,000 to his daughter Cynthia Lauterbach and granddaughter from Handel's account plus about $1,000 monthly, claiming Handel's permission. Miller's estate alleges Farrell destroyed records while claiming an oral will benefited him. Settlement details are sealed though about $300,000 was paid to settle. Farrell, 80, long active in the community, left RSSD in 1972 for the Kern County Office of Education and helped build a swimming pool.
