Farmers win extended truck weight limits in California

The State Department of Business and Transportation approves a 10 000 pound per unit increase for trucks carrying raw agricultural products from July 1 to October 31 with potential extension. California Farm Bureau Federation lobbied hard for the policy citing fuel savings and improved crop flow during peak harvest. Allan Grant notes prior summer permissions reduced fuel use and that this year fuel conservation gains are especially important amid a large harvest and tight supplies. He adds the move supports harvest and processing, reducing trucks at receiving points as road conditions stay favorable.
